SHBCC News Update – March 2024

As you may have noticed on the website or Facebook page, we are hoping to grow our volunteer grounds management team to help with outfield and pitch preparation. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm, other members of the team will provide help and hands on training. Any contribution, no matter how small will mean “many hands make light work” and help the club to continue to thrive. Please contact our club secretary for more information. If you have experience that’s a bonus.

We are also having a work day on 6th April so feel free to come and join us to carry out some necessary jobs prior to the season starting.

The rain persists, probably making the future preparations for the season squeezed into a short time frame. Hopefully better weather is on the way. Although weather is still having a serious effect on ground preparation at least some progress has been made with first and second cuts.

There is a lot of activity around the club with plans for a 75-year anniversary with plans for new outdoor nets and to up-grade the clubhouse. Money of course is the driver so anyone who would like to sponsor the club in any way would be made very welcome. Social Membership is also on offer for £120 a year, good value as you can get an SHB item of clothing and Bonus Ball entry.

Indoor nets for junior come to an end in a couple of weeks with seniors carrying on to the first week in April. All have been well attended with senior nets in particular having quite a few youngsters showing their senior peers that they can compete. Mentoring has been fantastic which has been greatly appreciated by the younger element, it really improves their confidence.

U9s and U11s have been in involved in indoor tournaments and although in contention they both finished 3rd in their age groups.

Quite a number of our juniors have their observation days coming up in March and if successful could be part of North Yorkshire teams which potentially could lead to County selection. Hopefully they will all go well on the day.
