SHBCC News Update – July 2024
The juniors continue to go well. The U11A team have won the cup defeating a strong Clifton Alliance team by 19 runs. Zac Powell and Max Walford starred with the bat with 30 and 29 respectively to set a competitive total of 100. The bowlers reduced Clifton to 81 for 7 in their 20 overs, Rory Hollis and Otto Bowles were the key with 2 apiece at a miserly rate. They also lead the league and are hoping to do the double.
The U13A are in the cup semi-final and are contesting the top two league positions.
The U15s are in a strong position to win their league and are also in their cup final.
They have had two outstanding finishes – one in the cup against Heworth with Reuben McBride taking a hat trick to restrict Heworth to 122. Needing 11 off 3 balls to win, 13-year-old, Harry Goodwill hit a massive six off a no-ball and then hit the penultimate ball for 4. The same player produced another great knock against Clifton Alliance in the league scoring a 4 of the last ball to ensure a win by a single run.
The boys selected for representative duty have all performed well and have done the club proud. Reuben McBride (13) and Olly Lamb (14) – played in the U15s final, both doing well. Also, Sam Giannini was called into the U15 North Yorks side and The Northern Hub side to play the MCC. Sam and one other York boy are the only two local representatives chosen from MCC Hubs from all over the North.
Our overall youth policy is starting to pay off with over a dozen youngsters, 16 and under, playing senior cricket and more than pulling their weight. The two Goodwill boys, Archie and Harry, Arron Cowton, Reuben McBride, Jake Popplewell, Olly Lamb and Sam Giannini are just a few who are performing beyond their years.
