SHBCC News Update – August 2026
The Junior section continues to excel with the U15s Presidents Cup winners and unbeaten league winners. The U11s lost in the cup final to York but will play the same side on 6th September in the league play-off having won the league. The U13s, having become Yorkshire champions in the National cup, won their league, undefeated, won the league cup and league playoffs beating Woodhouse Grange on both occasions.
Castleford were the visitors for the 1stXI on 18th July getting bowled out for 90. Mark Fisher 3/31 and Conor Hyde 4/46 led the way. Oli Shepherd 41no and Mark Fisher 47no knocked them off in 15 overs. At Hull Zingari the home team’s early success reduced Bridge at 95 for 5 but a rearguard action from Clark Doughney 64 no supported by Sam Beales 25 took the score to 238. Zingari were bowled out for 128 in 44 overs with wickets for Dave Hull 3 for 25 and Alex Wood 3 for 12. Batting first at home to Stamford Bridge the 1sts were in trouble at 26 for 3. However, Tom Shorthouse hit a run a ball 155 supported by Alex Jenkins with 58 to reach 286. Stamford managed 248 in 50 overs. Opening bowlers Conor Hyde and Mak Fisher had 3 wickets each. At Carlton Towers Bridge got off to a good start with Shepherd, Wood and Bennison getting starts but not going on. Shorthouse’s continued his form with 114 of 95 to take the total to 296/8. Carlton had a good go coming up 35 short with wickets going to Hyde with 3/57 and 2 each for Shorthouse and Bennison. York were the next visitors with the match bound to have a big influence on the title. Batting first Bridge were in some early trouble but recovered to 234/8 with 37 from Mark Fisher and 42 from Sam Beales. None of the bowlers really got into York who chipped away steadily to win in the 49th over. With Clifton winning it makes the title chase even harder and help needed from others.
After early losses at Bridlington, the 2nd XI recovered with a great knock of 96 no from Tommie Botha and a quick fire 37 no off 27 balls from Sam Giannini, including stopping the Hull train by putting one out of the ground onto the railway line! Three bowlers saw off Bridlington with Danny Cass 4/51, Harry Sutcliffe 3/29 and Giannini 3/36 to bowl them out for 174. Sessay visited the Bridge and racked up 324 for 8. Sam Giannini 3 for 68 off 13 overs and Danny Cass 3 for 51 off 8 overs led the attack. In reply, skipper Hugill managed a good 79 and despite good contributions down the order came up 49 runs short. Teenager Hanson had another good day behind the stumps with 3 more catches. On a difficult track at Welton, Alex Wood made a magnificent 172 with only Tatenda getting over 20 to post 259. A couple of early wickets from Sam Giannini put the opposition on the back foot but reached 221. Giannini finished with 3 for 49 and Wood 3 for 32. At home, Acomb recovered to post 191, wickets were shared with Giannini 2/44 and Cass 2/64. In reply Bridge fell 23 short. At Fairburn the home team amassed 300/5. Wickets were shared with two each for Giannini and Cass. The Bridge slumped to 114 all out with Tatenda and Cass the only batters in double figures.
Against Woodhouse the 3rd XI piled on 279 for 4, Rich Reynolds 106, Geoff Schofield 67 and another half century from youngster Wilf Metcalfe. Woodhouse were all out for 211 with skipper Dan Tuite 3/47 and Rich Armitage 3/44, backed up by youngster Jake Popplewell 3/35. At Bolton Percy the 3s managed to rack up 231 in the 40 overs, with Rich Reynolds 69 and Geoff Schofield 58no leading way, supported by Wilf Metcalfe and Freddie Iles. Skipper Tuite led the attack with 3 for 17 backed up by Lamb 2 for 23 and Armitage 2 for 41. At Hovingham, the home side made life difficult early but eventually succumbed to Rich Armitage’s pace and were bowled out for 182. Armitage took a season best 7 for 25. Bridge knocked them off in 30 overs with 68 from Rich Reynolds and 71 from Freddie Iles. Ovington were the next visitors to the Castle and posted a formidable 227/8. Dan Tuite had 3/45 and Rollo Storey 3/76, a welcome return to fitness saw Tom Appleton with 2/58. The chase started well with Storey the pick with 80. Wickets fell at regular intervals leaving Rich Armitage run out going for the second run to win the match which ended in a tie. New Earswick visited the Castle in a must win game to aid the promotion push. Having bowled NE out for 132, Tom Appleton 4/37 they knocked them off comfortably in 22 overs with two youngsters Zak Powell 33 and Jake Popplewell 27 supporting a great knock from veteran Geoff Schofield 65 no.
The 4th XI came off second best at Saxton losing by 80 runs having been bowled out for 89 chasing 169. With a side full of youngsters George Bell had 2/56 and George Mann 3/38. At home to Rufforth Bridge posted 163 for 8, Dave Sladen top scored with 57 ably supported by teenager Zak Powell with 36. The attack struggled taking only two wickets as Rufforth reached the total in 30 overs. The 4s entertained Hovingham and posted a challenging total of 275 thanks to 91 from Alex Bell and 68 from Chris Small. Six youngsters handled the bowling with George Bell taking 3 for 26 to bowl Hovingham out for 145. At Ovington the home team scored 197/7, again it was the youngsters doing the bowling with George Bell 3/59 and Jai Prasad 2/44. There was no real substance to the chase with Ali Hammond top scoring on 27, Bridge coming up 79 short. A visit to Heslington came next. Despite posting 210 thanks to 40 from Thomas Murdie and 71 from George Mann they lost by 5 wickets in the 38th over, George Bell 4/35.
