Ron’s Round Up – December 2021
December is not a very productive month for local cricket apart from trying to tie down new recruits for next season.
As reported last month we have made a couple of significant signings and hope to follow this up in the New Year after we have seen a few possibles who have been invited to winter nets. The senior player nets start on Sunday 16th January 2022 at St Peter’s sports hall 7pm -9pm. The first few weeks will be for potential 1st and 2nd team players and invited “guests”.
Matthew Fisher has done well in Australia for the combined Test and Lions squad albeit their preparations were curtailed by bad weather on the East coast of OZ. He is currently playing against Australia A and has been among the wickets. The way things are going we would not be surprised to see him retained on tour instead of coming home with the Lions – fingers crossed for him.
In the light of the Yorkshire Cricket Club debacle, we have revisited our own policies and are comfortable with our position pending any guidance from the league in the coming months. It is fair to say that we have always had a good Safeguarding culture and record especially where Juniors are concerned and would strive to keep that intact
The grounds are wintering reasonably well and all our cutting equipment is currently being serviced/sharpened in readiness for next season.
We have a group of helpers who meet on a Friday morning (covid rules permitting) and this is always open to new recruits as the current group’s age profile is on an “upward curve”.
The club’s AGM is scheduled for 25th January 2022 at 7.30 in the Bridge clubhouse.
The club would like to wish all its members and followers of this report a Very Happy Christmas and Happy and Safe New Year.
