News Round Up – November 2022
Now more or less through autumn and into winter you would have thought that the grass would have stopped growing, but with the unseasonable warm weather we have had to cut the outfield again in November.
Some junior nets have started at Terrington School for the younger element (U9/U11), the older boys will start in January as will the seniors.
Other jobs are being undertaken including treating all the wooden benches that sit outside most of the year. There are a host of jobs to do in order to freshen the club for next season.
One of the major points for consideration has been a voting form from the league with several very important issues effecting local cricket. The most contentious is the “Provision of Teas” should clubs have to provide teas at a pre-determined price or a blanket “No Teas” and everyone bring their own. It will be interesting to see the result.
Other proposals include the reduction of overs in the lower leagues from 45 to 40 and possibly with earlier start times, a possible change of ball manufacturer will also be voted on. Five or six teams have applied to join the league from the now defunct Wetherby league. Whatever the outcome next year will most probably not be the same as the one just past.
The club AGM will be held in the clubhouse on 30th November where a change at the top will probably happen for the first time in over thirty years with both Chairman and vice chairman
indicating that they wish to stand aside for some “younger blood”. A sad day in many ways but every club has to look to the future which SHB has always done when you look at the strength of junior cricket. We will continue to stand by our amateur status in the face of other clubs paying some substantial sums for players and coaches.
