It has indeed been an incredible season for the juniors both collectively and individually.

While it would not be fair to pick out some of boys who have done well as there are so many but it is appropriate to recognise two who have performed above their years. Harry Goodwill (13) finished just 3 short of a 1000 runs for the season (many an experienced player would give their eyeteeth for a performance like that!) and Sam Giannini playing Championship cricket at 15 and coming within a few wickets of being leading wicket taker in the 2nd team. Hopefully, along with the other successful boys this year they will have a great cricket future.

On the senior front the standout has been the promotion of the 3rd XI back to Galtres 3. It was hard going at times but the experience in the team along with some talented juniors got them through. Although losing two of the last four they had enough in the bank to progress. The highlight was a wonderful 100 from 63 balls by Will Warren against Church Fenton, the game wrapped up with 2 apiece for the bowlers.

The 1st XI has had a decent run in winning two from four to finish the season in 6th. The only blips being against the league champions Clifton Alliance and in the last match against York where they probably should have won especially after a great opening knock of 99 from Alex Liley. The victories against Easingwold and Woodhouse Grange were pleasing, the latter was special as a loss earlier in the season had to be avenged! Chasing 181, a 6th wicket stand between captain Mark Fisher with an unbeaten 50 supported by Isaac Giannini with 35 not out saw them home with three overs to spare.

It was a tight affair against Easingwold. Chasing 217, Mark Fisher hit the last ball for 6 to win the game and finish on 78 not out. The bowling was led by Dave Hull with 4 for 58.

The 2nd team lost three out of their last four games with the only victory against Thirsk. Thirsk were restricted to 187 with three wickets for Sam Giannini and two for Matthew Maltby bowling his occasional spin. Olly Lamb (14) made his debut and finished with a wicket and a great run out. He is another for the future.

They were mauled by York who had two centurions in a total of 351. This was followed by another bad loss to Whitkirk in the last match. Bridge travelled with a depleted side and despite early wickets for Danny Cass they couldn’t defend a paltry 127. Carlton Towers was another tough day. A total of182 gave a glimmer of hope with 30 a piece from Jack Hugill and Matt Maltby. Sam Giannini and Revaant Rakyan struck early, dismissing four key batsmen but Carlton had plenty in the tank. The 2nd XI finished 10th in the league.

The 4th XI suffered badly not winning a game in the last month of the season. Despite the youngsters being back at school, reducing the selection pool, they never conceded a game and finished 9th in the league while introducing many young juniors to adult cricket.

On the 31st August a huge party was held to celebrate the clubs 75th birthday. It was attended by well over a hundred people, past and present. It was pleasing to see club President, Mr Roy Piercy, a founder member of the club, there with his wife.  The days also saw an initiative launched to raise money for new nets. It was a great party!
