SHBCC News Round Up – December 2024

December, as usual, is relatively quiet in cricketing terms but the good news is that David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd is speaking at the village hall on 7th February 2025. Tickets are sold out but he has very kindly agreed to host a ‘re-run’ in April. All proceeds are going towards the building of new nets, we are grateful to David for giving of his time to help.

Unfortunately, the Senior prize giving was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. We are aiming to re-schedule this before the start of the 2025 season.

The golf day was a casualty to the weather but again there are plans to hold it early in 2025.

North Yorks “Observation days” have been held for U14s and U15s with three “Bridge” boys (2 at 14 and 1 at 15) going through to winter training squads of 20 which will be whittled down to 14 for the seasons matches. We are hopeful that we can add to this number in the younger age groups.

The club AGM was held on Tuesday 3rd December 2024. This was a very positive meeting outlining the success of 2024 at both senior and junior levels. It was noted that we now have approximately forty children registered for our 4–8-year-old “Rockets” together with the strong development of girl’s cricket.

The existing Committee were all re-elected with the option to co-opt any skills as necessary.

Mark Fisher and Jack Hugill will continue as 1st XI and 2nd XI captains with Dan Tuite as the new 3rd XI skipper and Travis Bowles taking over the 4th XI. The policy of pushing youngsters through to senior cricket will fall heavily on third and fourth team captains but they have already demonstrated their ability to see this important part of the club succeed, we wish them all well in their endeavours.

Some junior nets started in December with more arranged for January, senior nets start at St Peters on Sunday 26th January 2025.

Thank you to everyone who has followed the club this year, we hope you had a very happy Christmas and  wish you all a very prosperous and peaceful 2025.
