News Round Up – December 2022

The pitches have taken on a new scenic look as the winter frosts start to bite, as beautiful in the winter months as the summer.

Obviously no outside cricket at the moment but the U10s are in an indoor competition and at the time of writing are unbeaten. It has been commented by those outside the club that this u9/10 side collectively are as good as they have seen for a while. Hopefully augers well for the future.

Our youth policy continues to gather pace with further juniors recognised as potential candidates for senior cricket in the coming season. Some of last years juniors will be looking to improve and excel this coming season, a year older and a year stronger! We have a few boys already invited to participate in various representative nets through the winter. To enhance this growth we are improving coaching within the club at all levels.

The club AGM was held in early December with the Chairman Mike Oldfield and vice Chairman Colin Mole standing down after more than 30 years in office, indeed the end of an era. These two men with considerable help from others built SHBCC into the force that it is and should they should be recognised for it. In their time the club won the Village Cup at Lords and the Yorkshire Rose Bowl at Headingley to become champions of Yorkshire. Many other trophies and leagues were won along the way together with the amalgamation of The Bridge and Sheriff Hutton CC which was major step in the club’s history and has already shown the signs of a successful marriage. They have been succeeded by Paul Oldfield as Chairman and Vince Coan as vice Chairman. Most of the other posts stay the same.

Nets will start seriously in the New Year with the seniors at St Olaves from 22nd Jan 2023 at 7-9pm for 12 weeks and the juniors at the Galtres Centre in Easingwold on 13th Jan 2023 – 6-8pm

From all at Sheriff Hutton Bridge Cricket Club we wish you a very Merry and Happy Christmas and a Prosperous and Peaceful New Year.

Of course and wholeheartedly agree that both Mick and Colin should be recognised for their sterling and stalwart service, including many, many hours of volunteer work for SHBCC.
Their efforts are surely greatly appreciated by everyone at the club.
To Mick and Colin, thank you both, for helping make SHBCC what it is today.
