On the cricket front the junior news is good with both U11s and U13s doing well. The 11s got to the cup final but lost to a strong Acomb side. A young U13 side have won the league and the Plate but unfortunately also lost to Acomb in the semi-final of the play-offs. It has been a great season for them and will be tough to follow up next year. The U15s unfortunately missed out on the play-offs even with a great finale against Woodhouse Grange placing them fifth in the league.
The 1st XI has had a poor time losing badly to both Clifton Alliance and Stamford Bridge and the Harrogate game to the weather.
The 2nd XI also lost the Harrogate fixture to the rain but had a great win against Whitkirk by 8 wickets. A great 72 from Tatenda Shuttleworth backed up by Rob Stevens (49) saw them home after Isaac Giannini and Harry Sutcliffe had chipped in with 3 wickets apiece. The wheels came off against Knaresborough with a 36-run loss despite great knocks from Danny Cass and Matt Maltby with Cass also taking 3 wickets backed up by youngster Archie Goodwill with 3.
The 3rds are in a precarious position in the league having lost to Bilton by 53 runs with several getting in the 20’s and not going on. Their best match of the season was at York where they bowled York out for 120 with wickets for Sam Giannini, Neil Cowton and Rich Armitage. Ed Ramsden saw the Bridge home with a superb 66 not out supported by Andy Frank with 22 not out. The Nawton Grange game fell victim to the weather.
The 4ths are also in a poor place after a close 7 run loss to Saxton, Geoff Schofield 57 and both Nawton and Bolton Percy fixtures being rained off. They did however produce a great win against Hovingham with a half century from Wayne Fawcett and wickets from Travis Bowles (4) and Rory Williams with three.
