Ron’s Round-Up – July 2021

The club continues to be competitive in most areas with the 2nd and 3rd teams struggling the most.

The 2nd XI are still holding their own in the Premiership with a win over Welton but that is mixed with losses/draws against Whitkirk and Pickering; they currently sit just above the relegation zone but have the capabilities to finish mid table – a long way to go but young captain Danny Cass is leading from the front.

The 3rdXI however are really up against it and are currently bottom of Galtres 2; again, a long way to go but in a difficult league it will take all the experience in the side to keep them going.

The 4th team are continuing to go well with some good results especially over current league leaders Heslington.

The 1st team continue to do well with wins over Acomb and Dunnington. The spoils with both bat and ball have been shared around the side with some good individual performances propping a good team effort.

They lost narrowly to Appleby Frodingham in the cup but with a young side much experience was gained and banked for the future – 14 year old Will Warren continues to perform well beyond his years.

They have now also reached the 20/20 final with a win over Harrogate who they surprisingly lost to in the league.

The juniors continue to go well but with many schools experiencing self -isolating of children at various ages it has disrupted the programme.

The U11’s reached the semi-finals of the cup and lost narrowly to Clifton Alliance, probably slight favourites to win it.

Rockets has been a success again this year with so much enthusiasm from the children (and coaches).

We are progressing well with our girl’s cricket development with numbers increasing. Hopefully it won’t be long before we can get a full programme of fixtures.

All this wouldn’t happen without the backroom staff, especially the ground staff who cater for so many different matches on so many different days and nights.
