News Round Up – October 2022

Well, the season is done and dusted and in general it was very successful at all levels. The club has experienced growth with the number of junior players experiencing adult cricket. The junior section is in good health which hopefully gives the club some confidence for the future. There are youngsters who are identified already as future senior cricketers, and will continually be encouraged to improve their technique. Indoor nets for 9 and 11 year olds starts at Terrington school in December, and then for the older age groups at Easingwold Galtres Centre in January. Senior nets will start on the third Sunday in January at St Olaves (junior school of St Peters), for twelve weeks.

Both grounds are now “put to bed” with the squares top dressed and spiked. It was good to see the improvement in overall marks from the league for the Castle ground, the small band who prepare the wicket and outfield have done a great job, it is a credit to them. As usual “The Bridge” features highly in the overall marking for Senior grounds. There are lots of housekeeping jobs to be done now over the winter in preparation for next season. Cricket may be a summer sport but the preparation for it never stops.

It was good to see Matthew Fisher get awarded a Pace Bowling Development Contract by England, one of a select band of six. Even after a poor run of injury last summer, he is still very much in England’s plans. We all hope that he can keep fit next season.

Fund raising never stops and if there are any local businesses that would like to sponsor the club with an advertising board, please get in touch in the first instance with the club secretary. Details are on the website https://www.sheriffhuttonbridge.co.uk
