Reigning Yorkshire League County champions, Sheriff Hutton Bridge enter the final game of the season with a chance of winning the Covid-19 affected YPL North title.
For some weeks it had looked as though the final week home encounter against Stamford Bridge would be the title decider but Dunnington are now favourites to top the table. They have had a superb run of six consecutive victories which culminated in a one run win via the Duckworth-Lewis method over Acomb last Saturday. As a consequence, Dunnington hold three point lead over their two Bridge rivals and a victory over Castleford will clinch the title.
If this occurs, the winners of the two Bridges clash will ensure the runners up slot whilst the losers will be either third, or fourth, depending on the outcome of Clifton Alliances game against Woodhouse Grange.
Credit to Players, Ground Staff and the League
Whatever the outcome of the final game, the Sheriff Hutton Bridge players can be proud of their performances this season and deserve credit for their commitment. It is also appropriate to give immense credit to the Bridge’s ground staff who have provided a superb playing surface each week and to the vast number of members who have worked so hard to provide cricket during a most difficult period and enable the club to field four sides each week. Credit is also due to the League officials for their efforts and hard work which has enabled some good cricket to be played at all levels.
